Woman, 20, Struck, Killed in El Cajon Fatal Pedestrian Accident
EL CAJON, Calif. (March 2, 2021) — A 20-year-old woman died early Tuesday after she exited her disabled car and a collision ensued on the Interstate 8 Freeway in El Cajon.
According to ABC 10 News San Diego, the woman reportedly crashed her 2003 Toyota Matrix into the center divider. She got out of the car, stood next to it in the No. 3 lane before it was hit by an oncoming vehicle. Subsequently, she was hit by her own vehicle and killed, the California Highway Patrol said. The woman was hit by two other vehicles after she was thrown into the No. 1 lane.
According to the CHP, the collision happened about 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2nd near First Street.
The second crash involved a 24-year-old man driving a 2002 Infiniti G35 that was traveling eastbound on the I-8 Freeway. The young man was critically injured. However, his injuries were not life threatening. An ambulance transported him to Sharp Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, the woman died at the scene of the El Cajon crash. The San Diego Medical Examiner will identify her after notifying her family. The two other motorists involved stopped and cooperated with authorities. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators will piece together evidence and eventually determine fault for the crash. Witnesses may contact the CHP.
