The accident took place at approximately 2:40 p.m., near Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resorts.
CHP first logged the incident when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the highway. The dispatch later indicated that possibly four cars were involved, including a dark green BMW X5 and a green Chevrolet Suburban.
An article by KCRA said two women were hit while standing on the shoulder of Highway 50 near South Lake Tahoe.
CHP reported that a woman and five other people were on the shoulder after her Suburban lost its chains.
Subsequently, a Dodge Caravan came and struck one of the Suburban’s passengers. The female victim was seriously injured.
The BMW also slid and hit another female passenger on the shoulder. The injuries she sustained and the names of the wounded parties were not disclosed.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
