1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured in El Segundo Crash on 105 Freeway Near Nash
EL SEGUNDO, CA (April 23, 2022) – A wrong-way crash killed one person and seriously injured another on the 105 Freeway in El Segundo.
According to The Press Telegram and FOX 11 News, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at about 1:13 a.m.
The incident began when a silver 20015 Toyota Camry was going east in the No. 1 lane of the 105 Freeway in El Segundo. At the same time, a black 2017 Toyota Prius was traveling west.
The California Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, the Camry slammed head-on into the Prius. The two crashed east of Nash Street.
Wrong-Way Driver Hits Another Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the wrong-way driver, a 35-year-old Los Angeles woman, dead at the scene.
The 35-year-old Manhattan Beach man driving the Prius sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed him to the Harbor UCLA Medical Center for treatment.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP forced the westbound lanes of the 105 Freeway to shut down near Nash following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal El Segundo crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the CHP’s West LA office at 310-642-3939.
