1 Killed, Others Injured in Car Crash on Highway 299
TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. (October 30, 2019) – Eldon Ray Wolfe, 84, of Weaverville, died Tuesday evening and several others suffered injuries in a traffic collision on Highway 299.
The crash took place about 9 p.m. after Andrew John Carey, 50, of Weaverville, reportedly crossed the double yellow lines on Hwy 299 in his GMC Sierra and crashed head-on into Wolfe’s Subaru Legacy. Police believe the driver in the GMC suffered a medical condition or seizure that caused the crash near Highway 3.
Police stated that Wolfe died in the crash, but his two passengers suffered moderate injuries and were transported by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. The passengers were identified as Charlene Joy Wolfe, 73, and Foster Travis Burns, 57, both of Weaverville.
The driver of the GMC suffered was taken to Mercy Medical Center and his passenger Kimberly Jones, 50,of Weaverville, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Trinity Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by police.
