Jesus Zeferino Arrested on DUI, Manslaughter Charges
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 22, 2024) — Eli Lopez, 27, of Kingsburg, died Saturday when an alleged DUI driver rear-ended his vehicle on Manning Avenue near Orange Cove in Fresno County.
Five others were hurt in the collision at the intersection with Hill Avenue. The DUI suspect was arrested following the 11 p.m. crash on Oct. 20th, the California Highway Patrol reports.
Police records show Jesus Zeferino, 24, of Reedley, is being held in lieu of $222,000 bail. Also, he faces several charges including DUI, DUI resulting in death, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also has a stalking charge from an outstanding warrant.
3-Vehicle Crash on Manning Avenue in Fresno County
The Reedley man reportedly rear-ended the Kingsburg man and his female passenger who were stopped in their car at a stop sign on Manning Avenue.
The suspect reportedly failed to slow down and slammed into the car causing it to become engulfed in flames.
The crash left Eli Lopez with fatal injuries and his girlfriend was seriously injured and hospitalized. The family has a Gofundme page to raise money for his services.
Meanwhile, the car driven by Jesus Zeferino went on to crash into a second car occupied by two people who were not seriously injured.
Police arrested the suspect and he was treated for minor injuries by paramedics.
Three other men traveling with him were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The case remains under investigation.
