Elias Arenas ID’d as Pedestrian Killed on Lake Wohlford Road in Valley Center

Escondido Man Killed in Valley Center Hit-and-Run Identified
VALLEY CENTER, CA (April 22, 2025) — Elias Arenas, 25, of Escondido, was identified as the man who died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident last week on N. Lake Wohlford Road in Valley Center.
According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, the incident occurred around 10:49 p.m. on April 17, 2025, in the 2800 block of North Lake Wohlford Road, just north of Via Viso. Arenas and his girlfriend were walking southbound along the roadway when they were struck from behind by a driver in a Chevrolet SUV.
Emergency responders arrived on scene within minutes and performed life-saving measures while transporting Arenas to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. However, despite efforts by paramedics and hospital staff, he was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m. from injuries sustained in the collision.
The young man’s girlfriend may have also been injured, but her condition is unknown at this time.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
Authorities are looking for the driver involved in the crash.
