Elias Juarez and James Sanderson Killed by DUI Driver in Orange
ORANGE (June 4, 2018) – Two construction workers killed by an alleged DUI driver along Santiago Canyon Road last week have been identified as Elias Juarez and James Sanderson, according to The Orange County Register.
The victims, 51-year-old Elias Juarez and 35-year-old James Sanderson, were both road-construction worker who died on May 31.
As per the article, police said Juarez and Sanderson were working with a crew with their pickup stopped in the bike lane on Santiago Canyon Road when a vehicle headed east hit the truck.
The two employees were believed to have been at the back of the pickup setting up the signs for construction work when they were hit. The collision occurred shortly before 8:50 p.m., just east of and Jamboree Road.
Hipolito Paez-Vazquez Arrested For DUI
Police affirmed that Juarez and Sanderson were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the eastbound car, who was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, stopped and cooperated with the authorities. The suspect, 30-year-old Hipolito Paez-Vazquez, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
He reportedly pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree murder, as well as a misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license.
