Eligia Morales, 53; and Boy, 2, Killed in Riverside Pedestrian Crash

RIVERSIDE, CA (March 16, 2022) – Eligia Morales was killed after a pedestrian crash at Hayes and Roosevelt streets in Riverside.

Officers identified the 53-year-old Riverside woman as one of the victims in the collision which took place on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened when Eligia Del Rosario Morales and two children were crossing the intersection of Hayes and Roosevelt streets in Riverside.

At the same time, a 2020 Range Rover was going west on Hayes. Police said the car approached the pedestrians in a marked crosswalk and then made a left turn.

Victims Hit by Car in Crosswalk

Eligia Morales saw the SUV and pushed one of the juveniles, a 7-year-old girl, out of the way. In the process, the Range Rover struck her and and the other child, a 2-year-old boy.

Eligia Morales and the toddler pedestrian died at the scene of the crash. The FOX 11 News and CBS Los Angeles wrote that the accident occurred at around 3:50 p.m.

Paramedics rushed the girl to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the 46-year-old Riverside man driving the car stopped after hitting the victims.

The driver stayed at the site and cooperated with the officers. The cause of the Riverside pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
