Eliseo Zapien, 45, Seriously Injured in Stanislaus County Crash at Patterson and Bentley
STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA (March 13, 2022) – A fatal crash at Patterson and Bentley roads in Stanislaus County seriously injured Eliseo Zapien.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 45-year-old Waterford man as one of the victims in the collision which occurred on Saturday.
The incident happened when Eliseo Zapien was driving a 2018 Chevrolet east on Patterson Road, approaching Bently Road, in Stanislaus County.
At the same time, a 2007 Honda was going north on Bentley and a 2017 Volkswagen was traveling west on Patterson. The motorist in the Honda, Ruth Rancano, then ran a stop sign at the intersection.
2 Killed in Wreck
In the process, the 56-year-old Modesto woman went into the path of the Chevrolet and struck the car. Both the Honda and the Chevrolet spun out of control northeast and hit the Volkswagen.
CHP said the Volkswagen overturned upon impact. All three cars came to a stop off the roadway between the areas of Riverbank and Oakdale.
Eliseo Zapien and the passenger of the Volkswagen sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed them to the Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, officers added that the drivers of the Honda and the Volkswagen died at the scene. The Modesto Bee wrote that the accident took place at about 2:25 p.m.
The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
