5 People Injured in Head-on Car Crash on Highway 138
PHELAN, California (May 19, 2015) — Eliza Santibanez, 18, of Highland was killed Sunday morning in a head-on crash on Highway 138, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
About 5:35 a.m., CHP officers responded to the two-vehicle crash involving a Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Avalanche. Santibanez was a passenger in the Honda Civic. The driver and all four people in the Chevrolet were taken by ambulances to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
The California Highway Patrol’s San Bernardino Division is heading up an investigation into the crash to determine liability.
“This is a tragedy for this teen’s family as they cope with her sudden loss,” said Attorney James Johnson. “My condolences go out to them at this difficult time.”
