The male victim who has yet to have been identified sadly did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene, per KCRA News.
It remains unclear whether or not the drivers of the involved big rigs stopped their vehicles or continued on away from the scene.
Following the wreck, all lanes on Highway 99 were completely shut down for over an hour before a single lane finally opened up as traffic was diverted into the center median.
At this time, California Highway Patrol officials are currently investigating the collision and will determine exactly what happened and who will be held liable.

Sacramento and Elk Grove Wrongful Death Attorney
Based on the information provided in the report, the companies employing the big rig drivers could potentially be held partially liable for the death of the motorist in the SUV. A thorough investigation will ensue, however, as photos that were taken of the scene and compiled evidence will help investigators determine the ultimate cause of the collision. Police officials will examine all potential factors including speed, the possible involvement of alcohol or drugs, or whether or not there were any mechanical issues with the vehicle. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of each vehicle, skid marks, and gouge marks.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the family of the male victim may be entitled file a wrongful death lawsuit if the investigation determines there to be fault on behalf of either of the involved semi-trucks. Those not found liable may seek compensation for damages including medical expenses and hospital bills, funeral costs, pain and suffering, lost future income, and loss of love and companionship.
