Multi-Vehicle Fatal Elk Grove Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway
ELK GROVE, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2019) — Alberto Gerbasio Ruiz Cortes, 27, of Williams, died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision involving a black Toyota Prius and a semi-tractor trailer truck on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
The crash took place about 7:56 a.m., just south of Elk Grove Boulevard in Elk Grove, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP report stated that the Prius crashed into the big rig truck and was blocking the No. 1 lane. Additionally, a pickup truck and trailer may have also collided with a black Subaru at the same location. It’s unknown if these two vehicles were also part of the initial truck accident.
Cortes died at the scene and the coroner was called to respond. Paramedics with the Sacramento Fire Department were also there to assist anyone else who was hurt, but there were no specific details.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
