Emelia Martinez, 73, Killed in Oakland Hit-and-Run at 16th and International
OAKLAND, CA (June 4, 2022) – A hit-and-run crash killed Emelia Martinez at 16th Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland.
The coroner’s office identified the 73-year-old Oakland woman as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Tuesday night.
The incident happened when Emelia Martinez was crossing the intersection of 16th Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland.
At the same time, a vehicle was turning northbound onto 16th from International. Police said for an unknown reason, the car struck the pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.
Driver Hits Pedestrian, Flees Scene
The woman ended up suffering from serious injuries as a result of the accident. Paramedics arrived at the scene and then rushed her to a hospital, where she died.
The Mercury News and CBS San Francisco wrote that the collision occurred on May 31 at about 5:33 p.m. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid.
The suspect continued north on 16th at a high rate of speed and soon fled the area. Officers described the car as a mid-90s white Hummer SUV.
Officers are still searching for the hit-and-run motorist who ran over and left Emelia Martinez. The cause of the Oakland hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
