Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision Near Sycamore Street
Hesperia, CA (June 23, 2022) – Emily Castaneda, a 29-year-old woman, died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Cottonwood Avenue.
On June 12, Sunday, Castaneda fell into the roadway for an unknown reason. A short time after she fell, a 32-year-old man attempted to assist the woman and get her off the traffic lanes. Before Castaneda stepped out of the roadway, an oncoming vehicle struck her and the Good Samaritan. The violent crash took place at about 4 a.m.
The Sun published an article online reporting the female pedestrian sadly died in the collision. Responding paramedics pronounced Emily Castaneda, of Hesperia, deceased at the scene.
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old man sustained severe injuries as a result of the incident. Medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital for further treatment.
Our sources indicated the motorist drove away following the crash. Investigators eventually identified the hit-and-run suspect as 37-year-old Katrina Hernandez, of Stanton. Police arrested the woman on suspicion of a hit-and-run causing injury and death.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
