Teen Fatally Injured in Head-on Collision
BRENTWOOD (June 4, 2018)- Emily Alarcon Reyes, 17, of East Palo Alto, has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner as the passenger who died in a collision between a white 2016 Jeep Compass and a tow-truck on Vasco Road just south of Walnut Boulevard.
The fatal crash took place about 2:22 p.m. on Monday, June 4. The teenager was riding in the Jeep driven by a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old passenger and they were traveling northbound on Vaso Road. The Jeep’s driver crossed the broken-yellow lines to pass slower-moving traffic and straight into the path of a tow truck driver where the two vehicles crashed head-on, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact caused the Jeep to veer off the roadway and into a grass field where it became engulfed in flames. Reyes suffered major injuries in the crash and was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center, but she later died at 3:37 p.m. the same day.
A second passenger in the Jeep, a 21-year-old man, suffered a broken leg and femur. He was airlifted to Eden Hospital for treatment.
The San Francisco man who was driving the Jeep and the tow-truck driver both suffered minor injuries.
