Woman Killed in Crash Involving Suspected DUI Driver is ID’d

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (Dec. 28, 2023) — Emma Calbillo, 48, died on Christmas Eve in a multi-vehicle crash involving an alleged drunken driver on Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City.

The deadly, 3-vehicle crash occurred at around 11:21 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24th, south of Varner Road, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

A 21-year-old man was driving northbound on Date Palm Drive when he allegedly struck two other vehicles after making an unsafe turn into the southbound lanes, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.

Police responded and pronounced the 48-year-old Cathedral City woman dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, police suspected the 21-year-old man was driving under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested and booked into Riverside County John Benoit Detention Center.

Finally, the Cathedral City Police Department is asking witnesses to the crash to call them at 760-770-0300.
