San Diego Man Killed in Lemon Grove Crash
LEMON GROVE, Calif. (Aug. 1, 2022) — Emmanuel Elizalde, 26, of San Diego, was struck and killed last month on state Route 94 in Lemon Grove.
The deadly crash occurred about 2:43 a.m. on July 17th, just west of Spring Street, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the San Diego man was involved in a non-injury collision with another motorist. His car wound up stopped between the No. 1 lane and the left shoulder on SR-94, the coroner said. The second vehicle went down an embankment and hit a concrete barrier on north SR-125, the newspaper said. Officials say that Emmanuel Elizalde exited his vehicle when an oncoming eastbound motorist struck him.
Suspected DUI Crash; Motorist Arrested
The 27-year-old man in a Hyundai Elantra apparently tried to avoid hitting the younger man’s vehicle, but ended up hitting him as he was walking in the left shoulder, according to the Tribune.
Sadly, Emmanuel Elizalde suffered major injuries and died at the scene, the coroner said.
Additionally, police reportedly arrested the unidentified driver from the Hyundai on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
