
Teen Suffers Major Injuries in Crash Riding Scooter
ENCINITAS, Calif. (June 23, 2023) — A teenage boy suffered major injuries Thursday night on South El Camino Real when he was hit by a van while riding an electric scooter.
The collision occurred around 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd, according to the Times of San Diego.
Police say the 15-year-old boy was riding the scooter northbound on the roadway when he reportedly changed lanes and was hit by the commercial van.
The San Diego County Sheriff‘s North Coastal Station sent deputies to the scene where they located the injured boy and the van driver who stopped. Paramedics from the Encinitas Fire Department transported the injured boy to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla where he is being treated for major injuries.
The van driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation, but it’s unknown if there were witnesses to the collision. Investigators do not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
