2 Hurt in Collision Near Encinitas Boulevard
Encinitas, CA (February 20, 2023) – Two people suffered injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on the Interstate 5 Freeway early Monday, February 20.
Major Car Accident on Interstate 5 in Encinitas
The ABC10 News reported two vehicles collided on I-5 near Encinitas Boulevard. Preliminary investigation revealed a silver Hyundai sedan was heading south on the freeway. For reasons still unclear, the Hyundai crashed into a black Toyota Corolla traveling at an unknown direction.
Officials said the accident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m.
When rescue teams arrived at the location, they found the Toyota disabled near the center divider of I-5. Authorities added the Hyundai came to a rest and later burst into flames. Responding firefighters worked extensively to put out the fire.
Medical personnel rendered aid to both drivers involved in the wreck. It remained unclear if victims were transported to the hospital for further treatment.
Investigators mentioned they evaluated both motorists for possible DUI. Additional details on the precise cause of the crash have not been discussed thus far. At this time, detectives continue to work to determine exactly how and why the accident happened on Interstate 5 in Encinitas.
