Enrique Figueroa Lopez, 50, Injured in Firebaugh Head-On Crash on Highway 33

FIREBAUGH. CA (August 16, 2021) – Enrique Figueroa Lopez was injured after a fatal head-on crash on Highway 33 in Firebaugh.

The California Highway Patrol identified the 50-year-old Merced man as the victim of the wreck which occurred early Monday.

The incident began when Enrique Figueroa Lopez was driving 2013 Peterbilt truck north on Highway 33 in Firebaugh. At the same time, a 2012 Hyundai Veloster was traveling south in the northbound lane.

CHP said the Hyundai then slammed head-on into the big rig which was hauling trailers of tomatoes at the time. The two crashed north of Douglas Avenue.

Car and Big Rig Collide Near Douglas

Both the car and the semi-truck became engulfed flames upon impact. Enrique Figueroa Lopez sustained minor injuries as a result of the Firebaugh crash.

Paramedics treated him for the complaint of pain to his back and neck. Meanwhile, CHP added that the 18-year-old man driving the Veloster ended up pinned in his burning vehicle.

The wrong-way motorist died at the scene. Meanwhile, officers forced the northbound lanes of Highway 33 to shut down for hours following the wreck.

The Fresno Bee wrote that the accident took place at about 3:20 a.m. The cause of the Highway 33 crash is still under investigation.
