Mexican Man Dies in Crash on Freeway in San Diego
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 12, 2023) — Enrique Valerio Lopez, 58, of Tijuana, Mexico, died in a crash involving an alleged drunk driver on the Interstate 805 Freeway near state Route 905 in San Diego.
The deadly crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 10th, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
A 21-year-old Escondido man driving a black 2022 Volkswagen Gti reportedly slammed into the back of a blue 2015 Honda CRV at high speed.
The impact left the 58-year-old Tijuana man from the Honda with fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, witnesses told CHP dispatcher the young driver was “being aggressive to medics” who responded to the scene. He was treated for unspecified injuries and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Authorities rerouted traffic from northbound 805 to eastbound SR-905 due to the crash and investigation.
Police are asking witnesses to the accident to contact the California Highway Patrol at 858-293-6000.
