Ephraim Estrada, 20, Killed in Modesto DUI Hit-and-Run Crash at Burney and 16th Streets
MODESTO, CA (July 5, 2021) – A DUI hit-and-run crash killed Ephraim Estrada at Burney Street and 16th Street in Modesto.
Family members identified the 20-year-old man as the victim of the fatal collision which occurred on Sunday night.
The incident began when Ephraim Joel Estrada was setting off and lighting Fourth of July fireworks in Modesto. He was on Burney Street at the intersection with 16th Street at the time.
Modesto police said a Toyota Camry speeding north on Burney then struck the pedestrian. The Modesto Bee and FOX 40 News wrote that the accident took place at around 11 p.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found him lying on the ground. Ephraim Estrada sustained major injuries as a result of crash.

Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the male driver of the Toyota did not stop to render aid and fled the area.
A short time later, the motorist called and told the officers that he thought he hit someone because he got distracted by fireworks.
Officers responded and determined that he was under the influence when the collision happened. They also located a 12-year-old passenger in the car.
Authorities soon arrested the man on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing great bodily injury, child endangerment and felony hit-and run.
The Modesto DUI hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
