Eric Cripe ID’d as Suspect in San Diego County Fatal DUI Crash on State Route 79
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA (August 23, 2021) – Authorities detained Eric Cripe after a fatal DUI crash on State Route 79 in San Diego County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 53-year-old Escondido man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Sunday.
The incident began when Eric Cripe was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra north on State Route 79 in San Diego County. At the same time, a motorcyclist was traveling south.
CHP said Eric Cripe veered off the east side of the State Route 79 and overcorrected. He swerved across the northbound and southbound lanes and went into the path of the 1991 Harley Davidson Sportster.
Motorcyclist, 33, Hit and Killed by Car
The Toyota then slammed into the 33-year-old San Diego man, south of Aguanga Ranchos Road. The rider ended up thrown from his bike as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found him down on the ground. He died at the scene near the northern end of Palomar Mountain.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. The San Diego Union-Tribune wrote that the accident took place on August 22 at about 3:25 p.m.
Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Eric Cripe on suspicion of murder and DUI. Records showed that he remained held in jail on a no-bail status.
The San Diego County DUI crash is still under investigation.
