
Man, 19, Killed During Police Chase; Suspect Arrested
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2023) – Erick Barbosa-Guardado, 19, of Reseda, died in a two-vehicle Northridge collision during a police pursuit that ended with the arrest of a suspect.
The deadly crash occurred just before 1 a.m. at Lindley Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The LAPD officers were attempting to stop armed robbery suspects fleeing in a dark-colored SUV, MyNewsLA reports.
They attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect’s vehicle sped off westbound on Roscoe Boulevard. The vehicle also ran through a red traffic light before it collided into a southbound black sedan on Lindley Avenue, police said.
Nineteen-year-old Erick Barbosa-Guardado was driving the black sedan and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver and passenger from the SUV exited the vehicle and fled on foot with police chasing after them. The suspect who had been driving the SUV was eventually caught and arrested. They also located a loaded rifle in the SUV.
The collision remains under investigation by the LAPD.
