Boy Critically Injured; Passenger Killed
LANCASTER, Calif. (August 3, 2023) — Erik Macias, 38, died and a boy suffered major injuries in a suspected DUI crash at Avenue L and 20th Street in Lancaster.
The two-vehicle crash occurred around 11:16 p.m. on Saturday, July 29th, according to KTLA 5 News.
One of the two motorists was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs at the time of the collision, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Lancaster Crash Avenue L
One of the drivers was traveling northbound on 20th Street East. The man allegedly drove through a stop light at Avenue L and collided with a westbound Ford sedan occupied by four people. Both vehicles sustained major damage in the wreck.
Paramedics responded and located Erik Macias in the backseat of the Ford suffering from major injuries, but he died shortly after the Lancaster crash. Additionally, a boy riding in the Ford suffered major injuries and was hospitalized.
It’s unknown at this time if there were any other injuries involved.
Finally, the LACSD is heading up the investigation into the crash. Preliminary results indicate that the driver in the Lexus was allegedly DUI and that speed may have also been a factor.
