1 Dead, 2 Hurt in Murrieta Car Accident
MURRIETA, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2018) – Ernest Hardaway, Sr., 80, of Temecula, died in a collision between a van and a car Wednesday, Dec. 19 near the intersection of Interstate 15 and Interstate 215, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around 1:55 p.m. between the drivers of a 2003 Dodge RAM 1500 van and a 1999 Lincoln Towncar.
The Dodge was traveling southbound number 3 lane on the 15 Freeway, just south of Murrieta Hot Springs Road when traffic ahead slowed to a stop. He stopped his vehicle behind the other traffic when he was rear-ended by the driver of a 1999 Lincoln Towncar whose driver lost control. The Lincoln’s driver’s side door collided with the back of the van, pushing the van into the right shoulder.
Meanwhile, the Lincoln came to rest in the center median area.
CHP officers and Murrieta Fire Department responded to the collision. Hardaway died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.
The 61-year-old Downey man driving the Dodge and and his 58-year-old female passenger were transported to Inland Valley Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
