SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 10, 2023) — Ernest Martinez Acuna, 76, and his 74-year-old wife, both died in a crash earlier this month at Woodman Avenue and Jamie Avenue in San Diego.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 9:24 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1st, according to a report by NBC San Diego.
A 24-year-old man was driving his Honda southbound on Woodman Street and a 56-year-old man in a 2006 Kia Sedona with three passengers was heading northbound. The Kia attempted to make a left turn onto Jamie Avenue. The car turned into the path of the Honda and the two vehicles collided, the report said.
Ernest Acuna was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle. He suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, his unidentified wife suffered severe injuries and was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego where she later died.
Additionally, the driver from the Honda suffered minor injuries.
San Diego Police Department officers responded and are heading up an investigation.
