Driver Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash in Clairemont Area
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (May 26, 2021) — Ervin Antonio Rodas Lima, 22, died on May 16th in a collision on Balboa Avenue in the Clairemont area of San Diego.
The collision happened about 10:20 p.m. on May 16th at Mount Everest Boulevard, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
Ervin Rodas Lima was driving a 2018 Honda Accord northbound on Mount Everest Boulevard. He entered the intersection with Balboa Avenue and that’s when a northbound 2016 Toyota Camry broadsided the Honda. The Toyota had been traveling eastbound on Balboa Avenue prior to the collision.
The intersection is controlled by traffic lights in all directions, but it’s unknown at this time which driver had the green light.
Someone called 911 for police and paramedics, but sadly Ervin Rodas Lima suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Additionally, the 29-year-old woman driving the Toyota was seriously injured in the collision and transported by ambulance to a hospital.
The San Diego Police Department is heading up the investigation into liability.
