1 Killed, 1 Injured in Escondido Pedestrian Crash at Washington and Rose
ESCONDIDO, CA (October 12, 2021) – A crash killed one pedestrian and injured another at Washington Avenue and Rose Street in Escondido.
The incident began when a Nissan Titan was going east on East Washington Avenue, approaching North Rose Street, in Escondido. At the same time, a Ford Fusion was traveling north on Rose.
For an unknown reason, the pickup truck ran the red light at the intersection. In the process, the Nissan slammed into the Ford.
Pedestrians Hit by Car
Escondido police said one of the cars involved then struck a 45-year-old female pedestrian and a 7-year-old boy. The two were walking across Washington Avenue in the crosswalk when the vehicle hit them.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the woman and the child hurt. They rushed the adult to the Palomar Medical Center, where she died.
The juvenile sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel took him to the Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego for treatment.
Meanwhile, police did not mention if the drivers of the two vehicles ended up hurt following the wreck. Officers forced the area of Washington and Rose to shut down for a time after the collision.
The Escondido pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
