Joel Francisco Juan Arrested on DUI Charges for Fatal Pedestrian Accident
ESCONDIDO, Calif. (June 4, 2018) — Esmeralda Eusebio Guerrero, 32, of Oceanside, died early Sunday morning when she was struck by a suspected drunk driver in a pickup truck in the 1000 block of East Washington Avenue, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The crash took place in the westbound lanes about 12:40 p.m. at Ash Street on June 3rd. The woman and her boyfriend were crossing the street. Police say the driver was about to hit her boyfriend, but swerved to avoid the collision and instead struck her. She suffered major injuries including two broken femurs and a major head injury. She was transported to Palomar Medical Center, but despite efforts to save her life she passed away at 5:38 a.m.
Joel Francisco Juan, 32, who was driving the pickup truck, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and gross vehicular manslaughter, police said. He was booked into the Vista Detention Center.
The young woman leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. Family members have established a Go Fund Me page to help the child and the family.

Police are investigating this collision and criminal charges have been filed against the suspected drunk driver.
