SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY TRUCK ACCIDENT
KELSO, California (May 14 2014) — Ignacio Campa Jr., 32, was identified by the coroner as the man killed early Wednesday morning when his sports car slide underneath the trailer of a big rig truck on the westbound Interstate 40 Needles Freeway at the Kelbaker off ramp at the edge of the Mojave National Preserve, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
About 3:36 a.m., the “very confused” driver of the semi-tractor trailer truck called 911 to report the accident telling CHP officers that the driver of the sports car hit his truck and was underneath the trailer. The truck driver was “not answering questions” posed by police.
A second caller told police the vehicle was on Kelbaker Road about 100 yards from the freeway. The driver of the car was confirmed dead at the scene and police were trying to locate the semi-tractor trailer truck driver who was apparently not in the same location. By 4:48 a.m., CHP reported the big rig truck was located, but there were no further details.
“Police will further investigate this tragic crash to get anwers to questions about liability for this person’s death,” said San Bernardino County Attorney James Johnson. “The truck driver was obviously distraught about the accident, however, I hope he remained at the scene to assist police in this investigation.”
