Esteban Rocha Killed, 3 Injured in DUI Hit-and-Run Accident on 15 Freeway
SAN BERNARDINO (May 30, 2018) – One was killed and three were injured after an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash on the Interstate 15 Freeway late Saturday night, according to The Sun.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified the deceased victim as 23-year-old Esteban Vincente Rocha, of Riverside.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 2017 Chevrolet was traveling in the fast southbound lane of the 15 freeway when it turned right and hit the rear of a 2007 Nissan. The accident occurred on May 26 at 11:45 p.m., north of Highway 138.
The 42-year-old Pomona woman driving the Nissan lost control of the car, swerved to the right, hit the right-shoulder guardrail. The vehicle overturned and rolled from 150 to 250 feet down a steep embankment.
Salvador Joaquin Arrested For DUI and Hit-and-Run
CHP affirmed that two passengers were ejected from the Nissan in the process. One of them, later identified as Rocha, died at the scene.
The 42-year-old motorist sustained minor wounds while her two passengers, a woman and a man in their 20s both from Chino suffered major and moderate injuries respectively. All three parties were rushed to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, the operator of the Chevrolet fled on foot following the wreck. The suspect, 23-year-old Salvador Joaquin, was at found at a gas station on Highway 138 and was arrested. The Santa Ana was then booked on suspicion of murder, driving under the influence resulting in bodily injury, and hit-and-run from a scene of death and injury without bail.
