Boy, 16, Killed; 7 Injured in Carlsbad Rollover Crash in San Diego
CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 25, 2020) —Ethan Prestage, 16, of Carlsbad, is among seven teenagers injured Wednesday in a fatal rollover crash in Carlsbad.
The Carlsbad teen, who is a competitive surfer and skateboarder, was hospitalized in the intensive care unit where he is listed in very critical condition. There were a total of eight teenagers who were all riding in a Toyota 4Runner SUV driven by a female teen when it crashed 2:30 a.m. on Carlsbad Village Drive.
Jack Munday, 16, a student at Coastal Academy High School in Oceanside, sadly died at the scene of the crash.
It’s unknown at this time why the girl driving the SUV lost control prior to the crash on Carlsbad Village Drive.
Munday suffered major injuries and died on the scene, but four others including Prestage were found near or in the vehicle after the crash. They were all transported to hospitals with undisclosed injuries. Three others from the vehicle walked away, but were located about a block away at Pio Pico Drive. They were also transported to hospitals and their condition is not known at this time.
Police investigating the crash stated that at least one person was in the trunk at the time of the collision. Drugs and or alcohol were not suspected in the collision, but the investigation is ongoing to determine cause.
