Evelin Salas Melgoza, 22, Killed in West Covina Crash on 10 Freeway
WEST COVINA, CA (April 30, 2022) – Evelin Salas Melgoza was killed after a DUI crash on the 10 Freeway in West Covina.
The coroner’s office identified the 22-year-old woman as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Evelin Salas Melgoza stopped her 2019 Nissan Sentra in the No. 1 lane of the 10 Freeway in West Covina due to heavy traffic.
At the same time, a Toyota Camry was traveling at unsafe speed in the same direction. The California Highway Patrol said the Toyota approached and then struck the rear of the Nissan.
Noe Manzanarez, 19, Arrested
The impact forced a car into a 2007 Ford F-350 in the No. 2 lane, west of Azusa Avenue. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune and My News LA wrote that the accident occurred at about 12:02 a.m.
Evelin Salas Melgoza died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Camry, 19-year-old Noe Manzanarez, survived with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that Noe Manzanarez was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the victim. They soon arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury or death.
Officers charged the Palmdale man with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. They booked him at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry station in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The West Covina crash is still under investigation.
