Man, 59, Fatally Struck by Drunk Driver Sulem Garcia
FALLBROOK (May 23, 2017)- According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a bicyclist suffered fatal injuries at the hands of a drunk driver Tuesday afternoon on Old Highway 395 just south of Pala Mesa Drive.
California Highway Patrol was notified of the collision at roughly 3:00 p.m. when Sulem Areli Garcia, 19, of Fallbrook, had been driving northbound on Old Highway 395 near the Pala Mesa Resort. Garcia suddenly made a veered onto the right-hand shoulder and struck a man riding a bicycle.
The victim identified as Pau Burke, 59, of Fallbrook, sadly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a hospital for life-saving resuscitative efforts.
Authorities were able to determine that Garcia had been operating her vehicle while under the influence and was subsequently arrested. She will face manslaughter charges and for driving under the influence.
