Man, 56, Killed in 3-Vehicle Collision on I-5 Freeway
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 29, 2024) — Fariba Azar, 56, died in a three-vehicle collision early Tuesday on the southbound 5 Freeway near Lorena Street in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles.
Another was injured in the multi-vehicle collision between two sedans and a big rig truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded to the 911 call at around 2:43 a.m. on Feb. 27th between the truck, a blue Ford and a third vehicle, just north of the Lorena Street off ramp.
One of the cars also crashed into an embankment in the center divide of the freeway before it veered back into the second car and became engulfed in flames. The second sedan one had major front-end damage. Furthermore, both vehicles collided with the semi-truck on one side of its trailer.
Unfortunately, Fariba Azar sustained major injuries and died at the scene, but another person from the blue Ford was transported to County USC Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
Investigators closed down four traffic lanes and they are working to determine fault for the fatal crash on the 5 Freeway.
