Three Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Anaheim
ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 4, 2021) – A fatal Anaheim hit-and-run crash left three people dead Tuesday morning at Brookhurst Street and Orange Avenue
The collision happened about 2:50 a.m. on May 4th at the Anaheim intersection, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
Police located an abandoned white Mercedes-Benz and a black Kia Soul occupied by three men. All three occupants of the Kia were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
UPDATE: The Orange County Sheriff Coroner identified the victims as: Jacob Rolon, 32, of La Mirada, Richard Zuniga, 36, of Anaheim, and Alexander Smiller, 63, of Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mercedes and possibly two passengers reportedly fled the crash scene without calling for help. It’s believed that the driver was a woman and that they may have all suffered injuries, police said.
Police believe the driver of the Kia, identified as Alexander Smiller, was struck by the Mercedes as it exited a shopping center parking lot.
Crash Investigation Possible Hit-and-Run
A man told ABC7 he witnessed two people picking up the woman who had been driving the Mercedes and putting her in another vehicle. The three people then drove away.
Later, about 5 a.m., the driver and another woman were located at a hospital being treated for undisclosed injuries.
According to a news photographer at the scene, the Mercedes caught fire after the crash.
Authorities closed down Brookhurst Street between Orange Avenue and Broadway so they could conduct an investigation.
Finally, the names of the victims who died will be released after relatives are notified of their death.
