Man, 63, Struck and Killed on Chester Avenue
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (May 28, 2024) — A fatal Bakersfield bicycle accident happened Saturday night on Chester Avenue, just south of McCord Avenue.
The 63-year-old man who was riding the bike died one day after the collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash occurred at around 9:14 p.m. on May 25th, the CHP report said.
Authorities say a 28-year-old man driving a 2004 Chevrolet was heading northbound on North Chester Avenue when he struck the bicyclist who crossed westbound into the path of the vehicle, Bakersfield Now reported.
Paramedics rushed the injured man to Kern Medical Center, but he died the next day at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet told police he could not avoid hitting the bicyclist and cooperated with the investigation. Police added the bicycle did not have a light and it was dark outside.
