Deadly Car Accident at Bakersfield Intersection
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (August 18, 2023) — A fatal Bakersfield crash happened Thursday night at the intersection of California Avenue and Chester Avenue.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 10:39 p.m. on August 17th, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The drivers of a pickup and car collided near the intersection, according to ABC 23 Bakersfield. Police reported a male passenger from the car was transported to the hospital and later died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car suffered major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where they were listed in critical condition. Also, the truck driver was taken to Kern Medical Center to be examined as a precaution.
The sedan was traveling northbound on Chester Avenue and the truck was heading westbound on California Avenue. There are traffic lights in all directions as well as left-hand turn arrows. One of the drivers most likely drove through a red light at the intersection.
Bakersfield police are investigating and believe that alcohol is a factor in the Bakersfield crash on California Avenue.
The investigation is ongoing and witnesses are asked to call the BPD at (661) 327-7111.
