Child, 12, Killed in Crash Involving a Suspected DUI Driver
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2024) — A 12-year-old girl is dead after a crash involving a suspected DUI driver Friday night at Hosking Avenue and South Union Avenue in south Bakersfield,
The Bakersfield Police Department reported the two-vehicle collision at 7:24 p.m. on Nov. 22nd.
Police officers responded to the Bakersfield intersection where the drivers of a Chevrolet SUV and a Honda sedan had collided.
Investigators determined the Chevrolet was traveling northbound on S. Union Avenue.
Meanwhile, the Honda sedan traveled eastbound on Hosking Avenue and its driver made a left turn on northbound South Union Avenue.
The two vehicles collided and two children riding in the Honda were badly injured.
The 12-year-old girl died at Kern Medical Center and the 11-year-old boy was treated at the hospital for major injuries.
Investigators believe the driver of the Chevrolet was under the influence of alcohol and may have been speeding. Police arrested the motorist on suspicion of reckless driving, gross vehicular manslaughter, and other DUI-related charges.
