Deadly Crash Involving Semi-Truck at Bakersfield Intersection
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Nov. 19, 2021) — A Bakersfield crash happened at South Union Avenue and Bear Mountain Boulevard (SR-223) Friday morning, according to CHP officials.
The traffic accident happened amid heavy fog in the area about 8:52 a.m. on Nov. 19th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
In fact, the CHP report mentioned there were several near-miss collisions in the area at the time of the fatal crash.
CHP officials reported an SUV ran into the back of a semi-truck at the intersection.
Bakersfield truck accident
A driver and passenger in an SUV both suffered major injuries when the vehicle collided with the truck’s refrigerated trailer, the CHP report said. The truck was blocking the fast lanes of both northbound and southbound Union Avenue following the collision. However, it’s unknown at this time what led up to the crash.
One person died and a juvenile in the SUV suffered major injuries in the collision, police said. Police requested the Kern County Coroner respond to the crash scene about 9:39 a.m.
Tow trucks also responded to remove both the car and motorcycle from the freeway.
Finally, investigators seek to determine fault for the fatal Bakersfield truck accident.
