1 Teen Killed, 1 Injured in Crash on South Union Avenue
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2022) — A solo-vehicle crash on South Union Avenue in Bakersfield left one teen dead and another injured.
Also, the fatal crash occurred about 6:07 a.m. on Oct. 6th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers reported the 18-year-old driver died and an 18-year-old passenger suffered moderate injuries.
The two were traveling together in a 2009 Nissan that crashed into a power pole. The vehicle had allegedly been driving northbound at a high rate of speed on South Union Avenue and crashed just south of McKee Road.
Additionally, the vehicle crashed into a tree and the driver suffered fatal injuries. Police say the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
Meanwhile, the passenger suffered injuries and paramedics took them to Kern Medical for treatment.
CHP officers are investigating whether alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.
