 Fatal Bakersfield Crash State Route Highway 43 (Enos Lane) in Kern CountyKERN COUNTY, Calif. (August 10, 2021)  — A fatal head-on Bakersfield crash happened Tuesday morning on State Route Highway 43.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the collision in the northbound lanes of Hwy 43 around 5:07 a.m. just north of the Interstate 5 Freeway.

The drivers of a grey Nissan Quest van and a grey GMC pickup truck collided head-on due to unknown circumstances. It appears that the pickup truck may have veered into the path of the northbound van, but authorities continue to review what exactly happened.

At least one person died in the Bakersfield crash on Highway 43.

Investigators closed down Highway 43 in both directions while workers cleared the scene and tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles.

Meanwhile, the CHP is heading up an investigation into liability for the crash.

The identity of the person or people who died will be released after family members are notified.
