Head-on Crash on State Route 119
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (May 31, 2023) — A fatal head-on crash on Taft Highway 119 happened Wednesday morning at South Enos Lane in Bakersfield.
The 3-vehicle collision occurred in the westbound lanes at 5:29 a.m. on May 31st, according to the California Highway Patrol.
UPDATE: Man killed in Taft Highway cash identified
The drivers of a GMC 2500, a GMC Sierra 1500 and a Ford F-250 pickup truck were involved in the crash at a roundabout connecting State Route 119 and South Enos Lane.
Police say the 56-year-old Bakersfield man driving was westbound in the GMC Sierra. The GMC veered into the left front side of the Ford pickup truck. The GMC then crashed head-on into the oncoming eastbound GMC 2500 pickup truck.
Traffic came to a stop in all directions and someone called 911 to report the crash. They stated a vehicle was on fire, but then it stopped.
One person from the GMC 2500 died at the scene and Mario Bernardino Argil, who was driving the Ford, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The man who died was from Taft and reportedly driving the GMC 2500 pickup truck.
Tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the fatal Bakersfield crash on Taft Highway 119.
