Deadly Crash on Meacham Road in Bakersfield
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2023) — A Bakersfield pedestrian accident happened Sunday on Meacham Road in Kern County.
The deadly crash occurred around 2:38 a.m. on Sept. 18th, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
A driver was traveling westbound on Meacham Road when they struck the pedestrian from behind as they were walking in the same direction, police said.
The victim suffered major injuries in the collision. Paramedics responded and rushed the injured man to a hospital where he later died, according to the Bakersfield Californian.
Meanwhile, the driver reportedly stopped and cooperated with authorities, but was later arrested on DUI charges.
Investigators with the Bakersfield Police Department are now piecing together evidence and statements to determine liability for the crash.
At this time, indications are that alcohol and speed are factors in the death of a pedestrian.
