Man Killed in Rollover Crash; Two Injured
BARSTOW, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2024) — A 65-year-old Buena Park man died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 15 freeway near Barstow.
The collision occurred at around 12:47 p.m. on February 14, 2024, near milepost marker 15 SBD 113.00, according to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Barstow Area report.
The man was traveling with a 49-year-old female passenger southbound on the freeway in a 2002 GMC Sierra, just north of Afton Canyon Road, according to Victor Valley News Group.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man driving a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox was also traveling south in the No. 1 lane in front of the GMC Sierra.
Investigators reported the GMC driver attempted to pass the Chevrolet and allegedly moved into the median and then tried to merge back into the No. 1 lane. That’s when the two vehicles collided and the driver in the GMC reportedly lost control of his vehicle.
Fatal Rollover Collision on I-15 Freeway
The GMC overturned near the median and came to a rest in traffic lanes on the northbound side of the Interstate 15 Freeway.
Authorities say the driver of the GMC was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown out of the vehicle and died at the scene.
His female passenger suffered minor injuries and was transported to Dignity Health – St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, NV.
Also, the driver of the Chevrolet was treated for minor injuries.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office will release the name of the man who died after his relatives are notified.
