Woman Riding Bicycle Killed; Driver, 68, Arrested Hit-and-run, DUI Charges
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 30, 2024) — A 51-year-old Costa Mesa woman died in a bicycle versus car accident on Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach.
The woman was struck from behind on southbound Beach Boulevard near Glencoe Drive just after midnight on Sept. 30th, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
She suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital where she later died following the crash.
Meanwhile, the driver who struck her fled the scene in a 2023 Ford Bronco.
Elias Gutierrez, 68, of Orange, was arrested after the collision and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury. He was also charged with hit-and-run and second-degree murder, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
The HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is heading up the investigation.
