Paula Elizabeth Drake, 24, Arrested on DUI Charges
MARIN COUNTY, CA (Oct. 30, 2018) – A bicyclist died Monday night in a crash with a suspected drunken driver on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in unincorporated rural west Marin County.
The fatal crash was reported about 5:35 p.m., just west of Railroad Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police located the bicyclist in a ditch near the right shoulder after the collision. The victim was transported to Marin General Hospital and pronounced dead, the CHP said.
The CHP are investigating the collision and reported that it appeared the crash took place on the shoulder of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. So the rider was not in the traffic lanes and the 2006 Ford Explorer must have veered off the roadway upon impact. Sadly the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.
Paula Elizabeth Drake, 24, of Fairfax, who was driving the SUV, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter, police said. Drake was booked into Marin County Jail.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision should call the Marin CHP office at 415-924-1100.
