Suspect Sought in Deadly Crash on SR-174
PLACER COUNTY, Calif. (June 27, 2024) — A fatal bicycle accident happened early Thursday on State Route 174 near Hill Drive and Knorr Swiss in Colfax, Placer County.
The deadly crash occurred near 25281 SR-174 at around 1:52 a.m. on June 27th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a pedestrian on a bicycle was found unresponsive in the roadway.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office reported the victim was struck by a gold Chevrolet pickup truck.
The driver stopped and told authorities the cyclist was stopped in the middle of the roadway.
Police noted the rider was wearing dark clothing and had no reflectors on his bike.
The victim was treated for major injuries, but later died after the collision.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash. Also, the identity of the person riding a bicycle will be released after relatives are notified.
