Bicycle Rider Killed in Crash on SR-56/Ted Williams Parkway
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 17, 2024) — A fatal bicycle accident happened Wednesday on State Route 56 also known as the Ted Williams Parkway in San Diego.
The collision occurred at around 9:25 a.m. on July 17th, at the Interstate 15 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a man driving a grey Toyota Highlander SUV called 911 to report he “hit a bicyclist at the intersection.” The driver told authorities he works for Cal Fire, but it’s unknown if he was off duty at the time of the crash.
Paramedics responded and located the unresponsive cyclist on the ground, but the person later died at the hospital.
Police issued a SigAlert for the westbound SR-56 at the I-15 and traffic was backed up in the area.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the fatal bicycle accident on State Route 56.
